We’re building a garden.

A garden is cultivated with time, intention, and attention. It’s a process through which we foster growth and enjoy each other's company. It’s a commitment to the belief that having a place to be matters.

Some Context

atac’s Community Art Garden will be a year-round public art exhibit, traditional garden, and gathering space providing access to open environmental revitalization for downtown Framingham residents and visitors. The 600 sq. ft. urban greenspace will occupy the front and side of our historic Firehouse and—in addition to original art—will feature accessible seating, a Little Free Library, garden beds for the collaborative Urban Garden Initiative, and free WIFI for public enjoyment and enrichment.

atac’s goal is to foster community and creativity through increased access to the arts. This means equipping our community with economic opportunities, helping people develop problem-solving skills through innovation, fostering a connection to our guiding truths and one another, and creating platforms for creative expression.

Garden-as-Prompt

This project is a prompt, inviting us all to think critically about the relationships between ourselves and the environment, about inviting versus hostile architecture, about how we share land, and what we can learn from plants, pollinators, and the cycle of seasons. It’s a physical space that keeps present in our minds ideas of placemaking and placekeeping, of ecology, and intersectionality.

Three Promises:

  • The garden will have native plants

  • The garden will have art

  • The garden will have places to sit

Three Hopes:

  • The garden will be enjoyed by the full community

  • The garden will offer opportunities for education and inspiration

  • The garden will encourage more greenspace

What kind of art should be in the art garden? All kinds, we think. Beyond that, not sure yet. As such, we’re inviting you to fill our our informal "Hey, I’m Interested” form below. Doing so will mean you’re kept in the loop about opportunities for feedback and participation.
