Puppetry and the Art of Wearing Multiple Hats

Marty Allen loves to make stuff. He is a multi-disciplinary creator originally from Boston who now lives and works and makes and eats and talks and goes on bike rides in Brooklyn, New York. He wears lots of hats (both literally and figuratively). He often works as a lead producer, writer, visual artist, performer, puppet maker, and a musician. Marty is best known for making up The Sock Puppet Portraits, writing the related book, "Sock Puppet Madness," and for performing with rock band/art collective/giant monster/sock puppet, Uncle Monsterface. Though he finds “best known” to be a dubious distinction at best.

Marty has five published books and has worked as a consultant for cool folks like Nickelodeon, The Henson Foundation, Trusty Sidekick, Harry & The Potters, Maker Faire and many others, and mostly himself, running his business of art sales for over a decade. He’s pitched concepts for intellectual properties to Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, Penguin Books, and Comedy Central and has had major projects in development with a variety of production studios.
