Creating Our Future
tee shirt design contest

Thank you for your interest in ātac’s Creating Our Future Tee Shirt Design Contest!

As we get ready for the Party for the Arts, our annual fall fundraiser, we wanted to create a commemorative tee shirt as a Thank You gift to our community. What’s more, we feel this is also a great opportunity to highlight young artists around the Framingham area and this contest is open to all artists between the ages of 14 and 21.

All entries must be original designs of the contestant and incorporate the theme of the Creating Our Future. Designs must never have been previously published and does not contain profanity, trademarks, logos, or copyrighted works of any other person or business.

There are five (5) prizes available. First (1st) prize: $100 cash, ātac Artist Membership and a tee shirt with your design on it; Second (2nd) Prize: $50 cash, ātac Artist Membership and a sticker with your design on it; Third (3rd) Prize: $50 cash, ātac Artist Membership and a tee shirt with your design on it. The two runner-ups, Fourth (4th) and Fifth (5th) respectively, will be given honorable mentions as well as ātac Artist Memberships.

The top three (3) winning designs will remain the property of the ātac: downtown music + arts for the duration of time required to manufacture the shirts and stickers. Rights and ownership will revert back to the creator thereafter.

The top five (5) entries will be picked through ātac’s submission form and three (3) finalists will be chosen by the ātac staff. The top three (3) finalists will be notified by September 1st with the final placings being announced at the Party for the Arts on October 22. The three (3) finalists will be invited to attend as guests of ātac.

The contest begins on August 1st, 2020. The entries must be received online by August 21st, 2020 at 11:59pm EST. Please fill out our form below and send your design artwork to info@atac160.org with “Creating Our Future Submission” as your subject line.

Process submissions

Process is a series of talks with artists and performers.

They have 20-30 minutes to speak to whichever part of their process they choose, with equal time for audience questions and comments.  Artists may present on old or new works, thoughts on a concept, an experience, or anything related to the art-making process.

These talks dig deeper into the practice of art-making. What is learned when things don’t work out? How do we know when something is completed? Who is the work for? What is a first exhibition like? What is the last show of a long tour like?  What does it feel like to diverge from a long-explored aesthetic? What is a favorite aspect of craft? Exploring the answers to questions like this and more can bring us further into our own creative process and connect us more deeply to the works we already love.

The series will be pretended virtually on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.

Liminal submissions

Thank you for your interest in Liminal, ātac’s Gallery160 Installation Series!

Typically we are unable to feature installation work in our galleries, however, the Covid-19 health crisis, gives us the opportunity to utilize our gallery space differently. We are seeking proposals for large scale instillations for our Gallery160, a second floor, fully ADA accessible two-room gallery space. See below for the illustrated floor plan.

Installations will take place during our 2020-21 season (September-June) and have up to two weeks to install, one week for viewing through virtual tours, and one week to dismantle. The construction and deconstruction process will be documented and visible to our patrons via webcam, photos, and short interviews with the artist. Once the installation is complete, we will provide virtual tours to ticketholders which will be recorded for later viewing as well.

Liminal is part installation work and part performance, so think about the construction, tour, and deconstruction as part of your overall project. We’re looking to provide a multi-layered, engaging visual arts experience for our community.

Please fill out our form below and send your proposal to info@atac160.org with “Liminal Proposal” as your subject line.

The proposal must include:

  • Artist Statement

  • Project Goals and Objectives

  • Timeline

  • Images or Link to Your Portfolio

  • Materials Used

  • Project Budget

  • Funding Sources

  • Resume and References

You can find a layout of the Gallery160 here, indicating the usable space. Your design must include ADA accessible walkways. Artists and assistants must follow all health and safety guidelines outlined by the state, CDC, and ātac at the time of installation.

There is no fee to apply for any of the Galleries, although you must be a member. Please let us know if the cost of membership would be prohibitive. Not all submissions will be chosen. You will be notified of acceptance via email.

We are currently offering a rolling submissions deadline.

Thank you so much for your interest! We look forward to reviewing your proposal.
